La
Romagne is a Knights Templars commandery founded before 1144. At the beginning
of the 14th century, it became an Order of Malta property. The fortifications
were reinforced at the end of the 15th century due to its strategic location as
a frontier fortress. After the battle of Fontaine Francaise in 1595, Henri IV,
then King of France, installed his camp there.
After undergoing a restoration, the building housing the drawbridge was
modernized to accommodate hosts in this enchanting place, where century old
stones merge with water and woods.
